How I work
I am a medically qualified doctor who specialises in understanding and working with mental health problems in children, young people and their families. I see all new referrals personally, and undertake a comprehensive assessment. More complex cases may need more than one assessment session. I use a bio-psycho-social model for understanding presenting problems and evidence-based therapeutic approaches to ensure that children and families receive the right support and treatment.
My aim is to identify key difficulties, understand their cause and decide together with parents and young people a plan of treatment that will allow the young person to reach their full potential. I use a range of psychological treatments such as CBT, family work and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I also prescribe medication when appropriate, with regular review meetings to monitor progress and refine the management plan.
